Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. dark molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger

Instructions

  1. Cream together the sugar and shortening.
  2. Add molasses and unbeaten eggs.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Sift together dry ingredients and stir in.
  5. Put 1/4 cup sugar in a small bowl.
  6. Dip fingers into sugar, then pinch of a ball of dough and roll it to the size of a walnut. Dip the rolled ball into a bowl of sugar.
  7. Place balls on a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart.
  8. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  9. Makes four dozen large soft cookies.
  10. The dough will keep indefinitely in the refrigerator.
