- Saut onions in olive oil until tender. Add garlic, tomatoes, salt and pepper, about 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese and about 2 to 3 tablespoons basil. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes. Serve over hot pasta.
