Ingredients

  • 2 c. rye flour
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. molasses (dark)

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 quart boiling water on top of the mixture.
  2. Mix well until combined.
  3. When cooled to lukewarm (about 115°), add 1 package dry yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water.
  4. Add white flour gradually until the dough is workable.
  5. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  6. Divide into 4 loaves, prick each with a fork, and let rise again.
  7. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes until golden brown.
