Crisp, tangy dill pickles packed with garlic and dill, perfect for snacking or adding a zing to meals. Suitable for those who enjoy homemade preserves with bold flavors.

Ingredients

  • 6 qt. water
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 2 c. kosher salt
  • pinch of alum per jar
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic per jar
  • 1 or 2 sprigs dill per jar
  • small cucumbers
  • 1/2 banana pepper per jar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring water, vinegar, and kosher salt to a boil.
  2. Prepare quart jars with alum, garlic, dill, and cucumbers.
  3. Add 1/2 banana pepper to each jar for extra spice, if desired.
  4. Pack jars with cucumbers and other ingredients.
  5. Pour hot brine into jars until 1/2 inch below the rim.
  6. Seal the jars and leave on surface, covering with a towel to avoid drafts. Do not process.
