Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup shortening or oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well.
  2. Pour the batter into two 9-inch pans.
  3. Bake in a 350°F oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cake springs back in the center.
  4. Cool the cakes, then split each layer in two to make four layers.
  5. Top with Seven Minute Icing and coconut.
