Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 4 (1 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate squares
  • 1/3 cup unsifted flour
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease 2 cookie sheets; set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in quick cooking oats, light brown sugar, flour, milk, and salt.
  6. Drop batter by level teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake 6 cookies at a time for 7 to 9 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Remove from oven and let stand for 1 minute.
  9. Quickly transfer cookies to a flat surface to cool.
  10. Melt chocolate over hot, not boiling, water.
  11. Spread melted chocolate on one cookie with a small spatula and sandwich with another cookie to form a pair.
