Mennonite Egg Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 2 c. milk
  • pinch of salt
  • butter
  • 8 slices bread (thick)
  • lard (to fry)
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix egg and milk, adding salt.
  2. Remove crusts from bread; dip in mixture.
  3. Fry quickly in hot fat until a delicate brown, turning.
  4. Spread lightly with butter, sprinkle with sugar and place a spoonful of jelly on each piece.
  5. Serves 4.
