Instructions
- Mix 2 cups of flour and yeast together in a bowl.
- In a pan, heat milk, sugar, shortening, and salt just until warm and stir constantly.
- Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, then add the egg.
- Beat with a hand mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then on high speed for 3 minutes.
- Stir in the remaining flour and mix with a spoon.
- Knead on a floured board for 5 minutes.
- Shape into a ball and place in a bowl. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough. Shape into rolls and place in a greased baking pan.
- Let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) until brown, about 15 minutes.
- Brush with butter before serving.
