Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 6 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Cut the shortening into the sifted all-purpose flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit until foamy.
  3. Add the sugar, salt, and the yeast mixture to the flour and shortening mixture.
  4. Form the dough into a ball, let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Divide the dough into rolls and place them in a pan, then let them rise again.
  6. Bake in a hot oven at 400°F until the rolls are golden brown.
