  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. ground mace
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. ground cloves

  2. Separate hulls and pulp.
  3. Cut hulls in half or grind in a food chopper.
  4. Add a small amount of water to hulls and cook over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes or until tender.

Tips & Substitutions

Ensure your muscadines are very ripe for maximum flavor and sweetness. If you want to reduce the sugar, you can substitute some of it with honey or agave syrup. For added complexity, consider incorporating a splash of fruit juice or a dash of vanilla extract to the mixture. Grinding the hulls finely can enhance texture, making the sauce smoother.

Serving Suggestions

Muscadine sauce is delightful over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream. It can also be paired with savory dishes like grilled meats or spread on toast. For a unique twist, try it with a side of Fat-Free Vege-Baked Potatoes to balance the sweetness. This sauce also works beautifully as a topping on desserts or mixed into yogurt.

Storage & Reheating

Store the sealed jars of muscadine sauce in a cool, dark place. Once opened, keep the jar in the refrigerator and consume within a month. To reheat, gently warm the sauce in a saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. This preserves the flavor and texture.
