Tips & Substitutions

For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a pinch of sea salt to the chocolate-cream cheese mixture. If you want a lighter version, substitute half of the cream cheese with Greek yogurt. You can also use gluten-free sugar cookie dough for a gluten-free treat. To enhance the chocolate flavor, try using dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use homemade sugar cookie dough instead of store-bought?

Absolutely! Homemade sugar cookie dough can provide a fresher taste and allow for customization. Just ensure the dough is chilled before slicing to keep its shape during baking.

Is it necessary to cool the dessert before serving?

Cooling is important as it helps set the chocolate-cream cheese layer, making it easier to cut into squares. However, serving slightly warm adds a delicious gooey texture that many enjoy.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dessert a day in advance. Just allow it to cool completely, then cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before serving or reheat slightly for the best experience.
