Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold sweet milk
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together and work the shortening into the dry mixture.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in the cup of sweet milk, then add the beaten egg yolks to the milk mixture.
  3. Add the milk and egg yolk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Place the dough in a bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  5. The next morning, beat the egg whites stiff and add the sugar and cinnamon to this.
  6. Divide the dough into 3 equal portions.
  7. Roll out each portion to 1/4-inch thickness.
  8. Spread 1/3 of the filling on each rolled-out portion.
  9. Roll up each filled portion in jelly roll fashion.
  10. Place the crescents seam down on a cookie sheet in the shape of a crescent.
  11. Let the crescents stand for exactly 1 hour.
  12. Bake at 345°F (175°C) for 40 minutes.
