Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2/3 c. shortening or oil
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 to 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 7 to 8 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.
  2. Combine shortening or oil, boiling water, eggs, sugar, cold water, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast to the mixture.
  4. Gradually add 7 to 8 cups of flour, mixing to form a soft dough.
  5. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape into loaves or rolls.
  8. Place in greased pans and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
