Ingredients

  • 12 oz. bakery made angel food cake
  • 5 oz. package instant banana pudding
  • 3 bananas
  • 12 oz. container whipped topping

Instructions

  1. Break the angel food cake into small pieces.
  2. Place about 1/3 of the cake in a rinsed 1 1/2-quart mold.
  3. Make banana pudding according to directions.
  4. Fold sliced bananas into the pudding, then fold pudding with whipped topping, reserving enough to top each slice of cake.
  5. Spoon some of the pudding mixture over the cake, alternating pudding and cake pieces until the mold is filled. Chill in refrigerator overnight if possible.
  6. When ready to serve, unmold on a cake plate and cut into slices.
  7. Top each slice with whipped topping.

Tips & Substitutions

For an extra touch, consider adding a layer of crushed nuts or chocolate chips in between the cake layers for added texture. If you don’t have instant banana pudding, vanilla pudding can work as a substitute, though the flavor will be slightly different. You can also use fresh whipped cream instead of whipped topping for a more homemade feel.

Serving Suggestions

This No-Bake Banana Cake is delightful on its own, but you can elevate the experience by serving it alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It pairs beautifully with Tina'S Apple-Asparagus Salad for a refreshing contrast. Consider garnishing with additional banana slices or a drizzle of caramel sauce for visual appeal.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It's best served chilled and can be enjoyed straight from the fridge. Avoid freezing, as the texture may change once thawed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other fruits in this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute bananas with other fruits like strawberries or peaches for a different flavor profile. Just be sure to adjust the pudding flavor accordingly to complement the fruit you choose.

How long does it take for the cake to set?

Ideally, the cake should chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to fully set. This resting time also helps enhance the overall texture.

Is this recipe suitable for a vegan diet?

This recipe is not vegan, but you can easily adapt it by using a vegan angel food cake and a plant-based whipped topping. Look for instant pudding that is dairy-free to keep it fully vegan.
