Ingredients

  • 1 envelope dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons soft shortening
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  2. Add the shortening, sugar, and 1 1/2 cups of flour.
  3. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed.
  4. Gradually add the rest of the flour by hand.
  5. Mix until a soft batter forms.
  6. Let the dough rise for about 30 minutes.
  7. Punch down the dough.
  8. Beat 25 strokes.
  9. Knead lightly.
  10. Spread the dough in a greased pan and let it rise again.
  11. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 1 hour.
