Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3 c. diced apples
  • 1/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Pare apples and cut into half-inch cubes.
  2. Cream shortening and sugar.
  3. Add beaten egg.
  4. Add apples, nuts, vanilla and sifted dry ingredients.
  5. Bake in greased 8-inch square pan in 350° oven for 45 minutes.
  6. Serves 9.
