Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 sq. bitter chocolate
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 1/2 c. pastry flour

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and add the egg yolks.
  2. Cream again after adding egg yolks.
  3. Add half of the sugar to the mixture.
  4. Alternately add flour and milk to the mixture.
  5. Add melted chocolate and vanilla to the batter.
  6. Beat the egg whites and gradually add the remaining sugar.
  7. Fold the beaten egg whites into the cake mixture.
  8. Sift the baking powder on top of the mixture and cut and fold it in.
  9. Bake in three layers in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes.
