- Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water with 1 tablespoon sugar and let it rise until the cup is full.
- Cream together 1/4 lb margarine and 1/2 cup sugar.
- Add 3 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the creamed mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add 1 cup scalded milk, then mix in 3 cups sifted flour and a few grains of salt to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then let it rise until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread a filling of your choice (such as ground nuts mixed with sugar and spices) over the rolled-out dough.
- Roll up the dough tightly from one edge to the other to form a log.
- Place the rolled dough in a greased baking pan and let it rise again until puffy.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, cool slightly, then slice and serve.
