Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • few grains salt
  • 1 package dried yeast
  • 1 box hot roll mix

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water with 1 tablespoon sugar and let it rise until the cup is full.
  2. Cream together 1/4 lb margarine and 1/2 cup sugar.
  3. Add 3 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually add 1 cup scalded milk, then mix in 3 cups sifted flour and a few grains of salt to form a soft dough.
  5. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then let it rise until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread a filling of your choice (such as ground nuts mixed with sugar and spices) over the rolled-out dough.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly from one edge to the other to form a log.
  9. Place the rolled dough in a greased baking pan and let it rise again until puffy.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven, cool slightly, then slice and serve.
