Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 c. uncooked oatmeal
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. nut meats

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Pour boiling water over oatmeal, shortening, sugar, and salt.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Let cool until lukewarm. Stir in dissolved yeast.
  5. Add nut meats and 3 1/4 cups of flour.
  6. Cover and set in a warm place to allow it to double in size.
  7. Place remaining flour on board and knead until it is all worked in.
  8. Set in a warm place until more than double in bulk.
  9. Divide into loaves.
  10. Let raise.
  11. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes.
