Oatmeal Gingersnaps

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. quick cooking rolled oats
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Stir together first 6 ingredients and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  2. Blend in shortening, molasses and egg.
  3. Beat well with electric mixer for 2 minutes.
  4. Form into 1-inch balls.
  5. Roll in sugar.
  6. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes. Let stand 1 minute.
  8. Cool on rack.
  9. Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
