Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons pepper
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) shredded processed American cheese
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt the margarine.
  2. Add the flour, pepper, and salt; cook and stir until a thick paste forms.
  3. Gradually add the milk, cook and stir until the mixture begins to thicken.
  4. Add the shredded processed American cheese, cook and stir until melted.
  5. Place the peeled and thinly sliced potatoes in a greased 13 x 9-inch dish.
  6. Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour until bubbly and golden.
