Old Fashioned Cornbread Pones

Ingredients

  • 3 scant c. plain cornmeal
  • 3 c. cold water
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • dash of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients with the water in mixing bowl with a tablespoon.
  2. Mixture will be slightly stiff.
  3. Shape pones by tablespoonful and place in 2 well-greased iron skillets.
  4. Press flat with spoon.
  5. Put drippings of oil on top of each pone.
  6. Place in a 450° preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes or until brown. Makes about 15 pones.
