Old-Time Rolls are soft, fluffy, and golden-brown bread rolls with a classic flavor, perfect for family dinners, picnics, or any comfort food occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 c. flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add sugar, shortening, salt, egg, and 1 cup of flour.
  3. Beat for 2 minutes.
  4. Add remaining 2 cups of flour and beat until dough crawls up beaters.
  5. Cover with a wet towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until double in bulk.
  6. Punch down the dough.
  7. Pour onto a floured board and knead until easy to handle.
  8. Shape as desired.
  9. Place in a pan and let rise for 1 hour.
  10. Bake at 400°F until brown.
