Ingredients

  • 5 c. self-rising flour
  • 3 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. lard
  • 1 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift the self-rising flour and cut in the lard until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add sugar and buttermilk; mix well with your hands until a soft dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into biscuits.
  4. Place the biscuits apart on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 450°F for about 18 minutes, or until the bottoms are brown.
  6. Broil the tops until golden brown.
  7. Brush margarine over the hot biscuits before serving.
