Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening, cold
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Cut in cold shortening and butter until the mixture is very coarse.
  3. Sprinkle ice water, one tablespoon at a time, over the flour mixture, tossing with a fork until the mixture cleans the sides of the bowl.
  4. Make the dough into a ball.
  5. Wrap the dough airtight and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured board.
  7. Place in a 9-inch pie pan.
  8. Refrigerate until ready to use.
