Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • pecans, shelled and nut meats in perfect halves

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cream of tartar, and water; stir as the mixture heats until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Wipe away any sugar crystals that may form on the side of the pan when dripped from a spoon.
  3. Using a long, sharp pin, dip pecan halves, one at a time, into the glaze and place on a buttered dish.
  4. Work quickly as the glaze hardens rapidly. The glaze can also be used to treat dates, almonds, Brazil nuts, Malaga grapes, orange sections, and even violets.
