A rich, caramel-flavored frosting with brown sugar and milk, perfect for spreading on chocolate cakes and topped with chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized cooking pan, add all ingredients at one time.
  2. Stir over low heat and bring to a full boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute after the start of boiling.
  3. Remove from heat and beat until it reaches a good spreading consistency.
  4. Add a little vanilla flavor.
  5. Spread on your favorite chocolate cake.
  6. Cover a 9 x 13-inch pan with the frosting.
  7. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
