Ingredients

  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  2. Add shortening and mix until crumbly.
  3. In a small bowl, beat together water, vinegar, and egg.
  4. Combine the two mixtures until all ingredients are moistened.
  5. Divide dough into 5 portions and shape into flat, round patties ready for rolling.
  6. Wrap each patty in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  7. When ready to roll, lightly flour both sides of a patty and roll on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Bake shells at 450°F.
