Picante Cube Steaks
Ingredients
- Cooking spray ⓘ
- 4 cube steaks (about 4 ounces each) ⓘ
- 1 14.5-ounce can no-salt-added diced tomatoes ⓘ
- 1/2 cup chopped onion ⓘ
- 3 tablespoons lime juice ⓘ
- 1 1/2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic or 3 medium garlic cloves, minced ⓘ
- 1 medium fresh jalapeno, seeds and ribs discarded, diced ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin ⓘ
Instructions
- Lightly spray a large skillet with cooking spray.
- Cook the steaks over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until browned.
- Stir in the remaining ingredients except the cilantro.
- Bring to a simmer, still over medium-high heat, and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 25 to 35 minutes, or until the steaks are tender.
- Sprinkle with the cilantro.
- Cube steaks are not the same as steak cubes.
- Rather, the steaks are smallish, thin pieces of round steak that have been run through a tenderizer.
