Ingredients

  • 3 cans sliced red beets
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 24 whole cloves
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 dash salt

Instructions

  1. Drain the beets, reserving 1 1/2 cups of the liquid.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the beets, reserved liquid, sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, cloves, ketchup, oil, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
