Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • dash of salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 small package red Jell-O
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix water, light corn syrup, and a dash of salt in a saucepan. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover and bring to a boil.
  2. Cook for a minute or two to wash down sugar crystals.
  3. Remove cover. Cook, without stirring, until syrup reaches hard ball stage, 260°F, or until syrup is slightly brittle when dropped in cold water.
  4. Beat egg whites until frothy.
  5. Continue beating, adding Jell-O slowly. Beat until candy is creamy.
  6. Stir in chopped nuts.
  7. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper.
