Pinto Beans Caliente

- Wash the dry pinto beans thoroughly.
- Place the dry salt bacon in a crock-pot and add the washed beans.
- Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of garlic salt over the beans.
- Cover with water until it is 1 inch above the beans.
- Let stand overnight or until the water is absorbed.
- After soaking, add water until 1 inch of water covers the beans.
- Add 1 tablespoon garlic salt, ground black pepper or lemon pepper, and chili powder; stir well.
- Cook on high setting of crock-pot for 1 hour.
- Add more water to keep the beans covered during cooking.
- Cook an additional 5 hours on low setting.
- Optionally, soak beans in beer for less gas.
