Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Mix together flour and salt.
  2. Add shortening and cut into flour with a fork or pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add water and mix gently with a fork in a stirring motion until the dough begins to come together.
  4. Gather the pastry into a ball and place in a pie tin.
  5. Using your fingers, spread the pastry along the bottom and sides of the pie tin, shaping a high fluted edge.
  6. Prick the baked shell deeply with a fork on sides and bottom if baking blind.
  7. Bake in a preheated 450°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
