Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 8 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Melt the Crisco in a saucepan.
  2. Beat eggs, milk, and vanilla together and add to the melted Crisco.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  4. In a bowl, combine sifted flour, salt, and sugar.
  5. Pour the warm liquids into the dry ingredients and stir together.
  6. Knead the dough and set in a greased warm bowl to rise in a warm place.
  7. Wrap the bowl well with towels.
  8. Let the dough rise until double in size.
  9. Knead the dough again and divide into 3 portions.
  10. Place each portion into greased loaf pans.
  11. Let the dough rise again until double in warm place, well wrapped in towels.
  12. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes, then at 300°F for 10 minutes.
  13. Remove from pans and brush with melted butter.
