- Press 1/2 cup chopped pecans into the bottom of an unbaked pie shell, then bake according to the pie shell's directions and let it cool.
- Cream together the sugar and softened cream cheese until smooth; set aside.
- Mix the vanilla and chocolate instant puddings together with 2 1/2 cups of milk until thickened.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled pie shell.
- Pour the pudding mixture over the cream cheese layer.
- Spread the Cool Whip evenly on top of the pudding layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chopped pecans over the Cool Whip.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
