Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 beaten egg at room temperature
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Place water in an electric mixer bowl.
  2. Sprinkle in yeast; stir until dissolved.
  3. Add sugar, salt, butter, half of the beaten egg, and 1 1/2 cups of flour.
  4. Beat at medium speed until smooth.
  5. Work in as much of the remaining flour as necessary to make a stiff dough.
  6. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil and refrigerate for 4 hours.
