Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400° and melt butter in the oven.
  2. Mix sifted flour, sugar, baking powder, and spices.
  3. Combine milk and vanilla, then add to dry ingredients to make a batter.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan with melted butter.
  5. Spread one quart of canned peaches or other fruit with juice over the batter.
  6. Sprinkle with brown sugar and nutmeg or cinnamon.
  7. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes or until done.
