Ingredients

  • 1 large can or jar white (Great Northern) beans or pinto beans
  • flavorings (country ham, bacon, etc.)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Drain the beans in a colander and rinse with cool water.
  2. Place the beans in a Dutch oven or large saucepan.
  3. Cover the beans with water and add flavorings such as country ham or bacon, along with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes.
  5. Serve hot, ideally with cornbread.
