Ingredients

  • 3 fresh peaches or nectarines or pears
  • 4 1/2 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. In a blender or processor, blend the fruit until smooth.
  2. Pour the fruit mixture into a bowl and microwave on high for 8 to 10 minutes until reduced by half.
  3. Lay a piece of microwave-safe plastic wrap on a plate.
  4. Evenly spread 1/4 cup of the fruit mixture into a 6 1/2 inch circle on the plastic wrap.
  5. Ensure the edges aren't too thin. Elevate the plate on top of an inverted saucer.
  6. Microwave for 5 minutes until the center is no longer sticky.
  7. Carefully place the plastic wrap with the fruit leather on a wire rack to cool.
  8. Repeat the process with the remaining mixture.

Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother texture, ensure to blend the fruit thoroughly. If you want to adjust sweetness, feel free to substitute the sugar with honey or agave syrup. You can also experiment with other fruits like apples or berries depending on availability. Make sure to monitor the microwave closely to prevent burning. If the leather is too thick, spread it thinner on the wrap for even drying.

Serving Suggestions

These fruit leathers make a fantastic snack on their own or can be served as a sweet addition to lunchboxes. Pair them with a side of yogurt for a delightful contrast, or chop them up and mix them into your morning oatmeal. They also complement an afternoon tea perfectly, alongside something like Marinated Slaw for a refreshing bite.

Storage & Reheating

To store leftover fruit leathers, place them in an airtight container or wrap them in parchment paper and keep them in a cool, dry place. They can last for up to two weeks at room temperature. If you prefer, you can refrigerate them for longer freshness. To reheat, place them in the microwave for a few seconds until soft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to make these fruit leathers without a microwave?

Absolutely! If you prefer not to use a microwave, you can dehydrate the fruit mixture in an oven at a low temperature (around 140°F) for several hours until fully dried. This method takes longer but yields a great result.
