Red Cabbage(Germany)

Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage, shredded
  • 1 c. red wine
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • few grains cayenne pepper
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and quartered
  • 1/4 c. cider vinegar
  • 1 c. butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients, except vinegar and butter in a large pan.
  2. Cover and simmer over low heat about 1/2 hour or until the cabbage is tender.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add the vinegar and butter and toss lightly.
  5. Serve hot.
  6. Serve with the beef rouloden or the sauerbraten for a super meal.
  7. Don't forget the potato dumplings.
