Ingredients

  • 7 large cucumbers, peeled and seeded
  • 1 c. pickling lime
  • 1 c. white vinegar
  • 1 or 2 drops of red food coloring
  • 2 c. cider vinegar
  • 1 c. water
  • 7 c. sugar
  • 8 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 pkg. of candy hearts

Instructions

  1. Mix lime and enough water to cover the cucumbers.
  2. Let stand 24 hours.
  3. Drain and rinse in cold water until clear.
  4. Drain.
  5. Mix red food coloring, white vinegar, and water to cover the cucumbers.
  6. Simmer for 2 hours.
  7. Drain.
  8. Mix remaining ingredients.
  9. Bring to a boil, pour over pickles, and let stand for 3 days, stirring occasionally.
  10. Put in a kettle and bring to a boil.
  11. Pack in hot jars.
