Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 quarts milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 almond

Instructions

  1. Add rice to 1 1/2 quarts of milk in a double boiler.
  2. Cook the mixture, adding more milk as needed to prevent it from drying out.
  3. Cook for approximately 2 hours, stirring frequently every 20 minutes.
  4. Twenty minutes before the end of cooking, add cinnamon sticks and almond.
  5. Serve with a pat of butter in the center, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
  6. Whoever gets the almond is believed to have good luck for the coming year.
  7. Traditionally served on New Year's Eve.
