Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk and let it cool.
  2. Add sugar, shortening, and salt to the milk and mix well.
  3. Dissolve the dry yeast in warm water and add to the mixture.
  4. Gradually add sifted flour, mixing until the dough is not too stiff.
  5. Turn the dough into a greased bowl, grease the top, then cover with a cloth.
  6. Let the dough rise for at least 2 hours.
  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Cut the dough into 1-inch long pieces, dip each in melted butter, then twist twice.
  9. Arrange the twisted rolls on a greased pan.
  10. Let the rolls rise for about 20 minutes.
  11. Bake until golden brown and done.
