- Scald the milk and let it cool.
- Add sugar, shortening, and salt to the milk and mix well.
- Dissolve the dry yeast in warm water and add to the mixture.
- Gradually add sifted flour, mixing until the dough is not too stiff.
- Turn the dough into a greased bowl, grease the top, then cover with a cloth.
- Let the dough rise for at least 2 hours.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into 1-inch long pieces, dip each in melted butter, then twist twice.
- Arrange the twisted rolls on a greased pan.
- Let the rolls rise for about 20 minutes.
- Bake until golden brown and done.
