Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Put self-rising flour in a large bowl.
  3. Make a hole in the center of the flour.
  4. Pour buttermilk, dissolved yeast, sugar, and a little melted butter into the hole.
  5. Stir with a spoon to form dough.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface.
  7. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  8. Fold over each cut dough piece with melted butter and let rise for 45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 450°F until brown, brushing each roll with a little melted butter before baking.
  10. Dough prepared the night before can be refrigerated for 4 to 5 days.
