Ingredients

  • 1 gallon cucumbers
  • 2 Tbsp. coarse canning salt
  • 5 lb. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. whole mustard seed
  • 2 Tbsp. celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • Apple cider
  • 1/2 tsp. mace

Instructions

  1. Wash cucumbers and pack them in a gallon jar.
  2. Add canning salt and fill the jar with apple cider.
  3. Let sit and soak for 6 weeks.
  4. After 6 weeks, rinse the cucumbers and cut them finely into the gallon jar.
  5. Add 5 pounds of sugar, one cup at a time, to the jar.
  6. Add the mustard seed, celery seed, turmeric, and mace.
  7. Shake the jar after each layer of sugar until all sugar is used.
  8. Shake the jar every week for 2 or 3 weeks.
  9. Open the jar and enjoy the pickles.
