Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, shortening, salt, and baking powder like pie dough. Add beaten egg and milk.
  2. Roll half of the dough between wax paper to the size of a cookie sheet.
  3. Invert the rolled dough onto the cookie sheet.
  4. Spread your favorite filling evenly over the dough.
  5. Roll out the remaining half of the dough.
  6. Cut the second dough into strips to make a lattice pattern.
  7. Place the lattice strips on top of the filling.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
