Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. Crisco
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in the Crisco until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and let it sit until frothy.
  4. Mix in the buttermilk with the yeast mixture.
  5. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Store the dough in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
