Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, margarine and sugar to fine crumbs.
  2. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of crumbs for top.
  3. Mix water, molasses and baking soda.
  4. Add to remaining crumbs and beat until very thin batter.
  5. Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan or fill cupcake tins 1/2 full.
  6. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
  7. Bake at 350°.
  8. Cake 45 to 50 minutes.
  9. Cupcakes 25 to 30 minutes.
