  • 1 lb. cleaned shrimp
  • 1 can beer
  • 1 lb. link sausage (Hillshire Farm beef)
  • corn on the cob in 3 inch pieces (20 or so pieces)
  • water
  • 1 bag shrimp crab mix

Instructions

  1. Fill a large stew pot halfway with water.
  2. Add a can of beer and the shrimp crab mix, then bring to a full boil.
  3. Drop in the corn pieces and boil for 20 minutes.
  4. Add the sausage and bring the mixture to a full boil for 10 minutes.
  5. Finally, add the shrimp and cook for 2 minutes.
  6. Drain the contents and serve.

Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider using a spicy sausage or adding some Cajun seasoning to the water. If you have fresh shrimp, that's even better! You can substitute the sausages with chicken or turkey sausage if preferred. Make sure not to overcook the shrimp; they should turn pink and opaque in just a couple of minutes. For a twist, try adding a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the shrimp-corn-sausage toss in large bowls, garnished with fresh parsley or green onions for a pop of color. It pairs beautifully with crusty bread or a light salad. Consider serving it alongside Crawfish Cheese Dip Or Sauce for a delightful seafood-themed meal.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When reheating, do so gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of water to keep the shrimp from becoming rubbery. Avoid reheating multiple times to maintain quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen shrimp for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen shrimp, but be sure to thaw them fully before cooking. This will help them cook evenly and ensure they retain their texture. Just place them in the refrigerator overnight or run them under cold water to speed up the process.

What type of beer works best in this dish?

A light lager or pilsner works best, as it won't overpower the dish. However, you can use your favorite beer or even a pale ale for a bolder flavor. Just keep in mind that the beer's taste will influence the final dish, so choose one you enjoy drinking.

Is there a vegetarian option for this recipe?

While this dish is seafood-heavy, you can create a vegetarian version by substituting the shrimp and sausage with hearty vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms. You can also use a plant-based sausage for added flavor and texture.
