Siapo dough produces soft, flavorful rolls ideal for stuffing with fillings. Its sweet, yeasty aroma and tender texture make it a delightful treat for breakfast or snacks.

Ingredients

  • 8 c. flour
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. oil

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and let it activate.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, warm milk, and oil in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir well.
  4. Knead the dough just as for bread until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and knead again to remove air bubbles.
  7. Shape the dough into long rolls, resembling sausages.
  8. Cut the rolls into slices and flatten each slice.
  9. Place a spoonful of filling on each flattened dough piece and fold up the edges to enclose the filling.
  10. Pinch the edges together to seal.
  11. Form each filled piece into a ball.
  12. Cut small circles from waxed paper, approximately 2 inches in diameter, to sit the rolls on.
  13. Place the waxed paper circles and the rolls on a rack inside a steamer.
  14. Steam the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes until cooked through.
